Before You Book

When is the best time to visit Hamilton Island?

Hamilton Island enjoys a warm tropical climate year-round, making it a wonderful destination in every season. While the weather naturally varies throughout the year, there's always something to enjoy.

Many visitors consider April to June and September to November to be the ideal times to visit, thanks to generally comfortable temperatures, lower humidity and pleasant conditions for exploring the island. These months are popular for outdoor dining, scenic walks and water-based activities.

Travelling during the quieter months can also have its advantages. With fewer visitors on the island, you'll often enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere, quieter beaches and walking trails, and greater availability for restaurants and popular tours. It's the perfect time to slow down, unwind and experience Hamilton Island at a more leisurely pace.

School holidays, Easter and the Christmas and New Year period are among the busiest times of the year. If you're planning to visit during these peak periods, we recommend booking your accommodation, restaurants and activities well in advance to avoid disappointment.

As with any tropical destination, weather patterns can vary from year to year, and occasional rain showers are possible at any time. However, these are often short-lived, and many guests find that even a tropical shower simply adds to the island's lush natural beauty.

How do I confirm my booking?

Bookings made through Hamilton Island Holiday Apartments are confirmed once you receive your official confirmation email from our reservations team.

If you've booked online, your reservation is generally confirmed within 24 hours.

Most Hamilton Island Holiday Apartments include at least one complimentary four-seat golf buggy for the duration of your stay, allowing you to easily explore the island at your own pace. Some larger premium properties include two golf buggies. Your property listing will clearly outline whether a golf buggy is included.

Upon arrival, every approved driver will complete a short buggy induction before the keys are handed over.

Please note: Whitsunday Apartments do not come with a golf buggy.

Who can drive the golf buggy?

Anyone wishing to drive the complimentary golf buggy must hold a valid P2 (green P plates) licence or above. Learner drivers and P1 (red P plate) licence holders are not permitted to operate golf buggies on Hamilton Island.

Each approved driver must present their licence during check-in before completing a brief buggy induction with the valet team.

For everyone's safety, Hamilton Island & QLD road rules apply at all times.

Are linen and towels provided?

Yes - Your accommodation is supplied with professionally prepared bed linen, bath towels and one beach towel per guest for the duration of your stay.

To ensure enough towels are provided, please make sure the number of guests on your booking is accurate before arrival.

Are portacots and highchairs available?

Yes - Every HIHA property includes one complimentary portacot and one highchair, making travelling with young children that little bit easier.

Please note that cot linen is not supplied, so you'll need to bring your own bedding for the portacot.

If you require additional portacots or highchairs during your stay, simply contact our team before you arrive and we'll be happy to discuss hire options.

Can I hire a baby seat for the golf buggy?

Yes - Queensland law requires all children under 4 years of age to travel in an approved child restraint while riding in a golf buggy.

You're welcome to bring your own child seat, or HIHA can arrange one for you before arrival.

Guests may be charged additional cleaning, security or repair costs if these conditions are breached.

What happens if I leave something behind?

If personal belongings are left behind after departure, we'll do our best to assist in returning them.

Please note that due to Hamilton Island's unique location, a minimum postage and handling fee of $50 applies to return lost property.

We recommend checking your accommodation carefully before departure to ensure nothing is left behind.

Is there anything I should know about the island's wildlife?

Hamilton Island is home to an incredible range of native wildlife, including sulphur-crested cockatoos, curlews, bush stone-curlews, rainbow lorikeets and goannas.

Please do not feed the wildlife, as human food can make native animals seriously ill. Before leaving your accommodation, always ensure doors and windows are securely closed. Cockatoos in particular are well known for entering apartments in search of food and can cause significant damage to furnishings and property.

Guests may be responsible for repair costs where wildlife damage occurs as a result of doors or windows being left open.
